I first experienced a Dr Fish Pedicure during a visit to Cardiff to see my son at the Atrium University.
My 10 year old daughter Nikita was really keen to have a treatment, and my son commented that he thought it was the bush tucker trial. My daughter convinced me that I should have ago. At first it was a little ticklish, but after a few minutes of getting used to the sensation it was very relaxing and felt like a foot massage. I was also amazed at the condition of my feet after coming out of the foot spa, hard skin and calluses were gone.
Whilst I was keen to have a treatment, I found this Shopping Mall approach was very in-personal, there were people standing around watching which was very uncomfortable, like I was in a zoo. Also in my case my feet were not checked thoroughly to ensure I met the criteria for having the treatment done.
I am therefore concious in providing a one-to-one quality service, where my clients get the utmost in care and service. Not a conveyeur belt approach, in and out.
Health & safety
This treatment has raised concerns over health and safety issues but the treatment has been practiced for over 400 years, and from what I can see seems a perfectly natural treatment.
The Garra Rufa fish are found in the Turkish regions, and parts of the Middle East. Dr fish another name given to them are renowned for their ability to find and feed on dead skin making the skin feel softer and smoother after a treatment. The Dr fish have no teeth, so there is no worry of being nipped.
The water in the spa unit is constantly being circulated; the whole tank is filtered with a high powered pump that takes only two minutes to cycle the whole tank. It is also sterilized by the UV sterilizer which makes it perfectly safe.
